Recreational Classes

East Coast Edge offers a variety of dance classes for students ages 3-18. Students learn to enjoy the art of dance while exploring different types of dance. Our classes include ballet, hip hop, jazz, lyrical, and tap. These classes are held September – June and meet once a week. The classes conclude in early June with a professionally choreographed recital complete with beautiful costumes that showcase the dancers’ new skills. There is a 30-day notice cancellation policy.

Class Descriptions

Ballet – A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of formal steps, gestures, and poses. Dancers will develop poise and confidence while learning ballet positions and proper technique.

Dress Code: Leotard, tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a bun.

Hip Hop – A popular form of street dance seen in music videos and popular performances. It includes breaking, popping, isolations, and jazz funk all in this athletic and energetic dance style.

Dress Code: T-shirt or tank top, sweats or leggings, sneakers, and hair pulled back.

Jazz – A fun and upbeat form of dance that combines classical training, including isolations, turns, jumps, and style. These classes will incorporate different skills into choreographed routines which will enhance students’ technique, progression, and memory skills.

Dress Code: Fitted top with fitted shorts or pants, jazz shoes, and hair pulled back.

Lyrical – A blend of ballet and jazz technique to express emotions, the mood of the song, and tell a story. Dancers will learn to convey themselves through lyrics and musicality, all while using their technique in different steps.

Dress Code: Fitted top with fitted shorts or pants, jazz shoes, and hair pulled back.

Musical Theater – This unique art form combines the worlds of music, dance, and acting in order to create a story filled with entertainment and energy. Students will learn how to combine both song and dance while keeping a storyline in mind. The class will focus on several famous musicals, culminating in a final cabaret show.

Dress Code: Fitted top with fitted shorts or pants, jazz shoes, and hair pulled back.

Tap – A fun form of dance that explores rhythm, tempo, timing, balance, and coordination while making music with your feet. Dancers will learn how to create music and different rhythms with their feet using different sounds.

Dress Code: Fitted top with fitted shorts or pants, tap shoes, and hair pulled back.
